After several major performances across Lagos, singer-songwriter, Banké took a significant step in her musical journey by curating her first self-produced showcase in lagos, “At the Backyard with Banké.” Held in the heart of Victoria Island The Backyard Bar & Grill, the event was an intimate evening of live music, storytelling, and collaboration.
Set in a cozy outdoor space, the show attracted a lively audience of music lovers, friends, and fellow artists. With the support of the skilled D’Collage Band, Banké crafted a night that felt less like a concert and more like a conversation, soulful, personal, and deeply intentional.
The evening was hosted by Lexie Armani and opened with a set by Cintea, who performed “Falling” and “Hope.” What followed was a seamless flow of performances by emerging talents including Sunkanmi Stephens, Khemmiesings, Cillsoul, Papyfire, and Dizaya, each offering unique sounds that blended into the fabric of the night.
Highlights included Sunkanmi Stephens’ performance of “Ife Ni” and his duet with Banke on Johnny Drille and Teni’s “Denge Pose.” Khemmiesings also joined Banké for a powerful rendition of Simi’s “Woman,” delivering one of the evening’s most resonant moments.
Papyfire and Dizaya brought energy with original songs featuring Banke, including “Be Fine,” “Something Like That,”and “This Na My Story,” all of which added emotional and rhythmic variety to the lineup.
One of the night’s standout moments came with the surprise appearance of Ruby Gyang, who lit up the stage with soulful renditions of “Good Man,” “Okay,” “High,” and “Shakara.”Her performance elevated the evening, bridging the new wave of Lagos talent with an established voice in Nigerian soul music
Banke closed the night with a solo set that showcased her growth as a vocalist and songwriter. Performing originals such as “Lights,” “Mirror,” “A Song for You,” “Jeje,” and “Count My Blessings,” she delivered with clarity and emotional depth. The unreleased track “Gidigba” offered a glimpse of what is to come, leaving the audience with a lasting impression.
While modest in scale, the event demonstrated strong production values. Host Lexie Armani kept the evening flowing, and the live band ensured the musical transitions remained smooth and immersive. The choice of venue contributed to the show’s charm, allowing for a close connection between artist and audience something often lost in larger concert settings. With “At the Backyard with Banké,” the artist stepped confidently into the role of curator and headliner. The show was a refreshing alternative to the typical Lagos concert, offering intimacy, artistry, and a platform for rising voices. It signaled a new chapter for Banke, one rooted in creative freedom, community, and a clear musical vision.
